In English 2 Honors this year, students will develop their communication skills in all four areas of language arts: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Class assignments will require them to use these skills in combination. In the first quarter, students will be annotate, analyze, and compare several short essays and stories from the Collections textbook and then write synthesis essays supporting their claims with textual evidence. Vocabulary development in the first quarter will focus on Greek and Latin roots, and these words will provide the content for sentence fluency exercise. Our class novel for this quarter is John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men; students will participate in a Socratic seminar about the novel as a culminating activity.
